Privacy Policy — Dry Scroll
This policy describes how Dry Scroll handles information on your device and, after you accept the in-app notice, a small set of anonymous product events.
Summary
Reel counting stays on your phone. Dry Scroll does not upload your videos, captions, or reel totals automatically. After you accept the privacy notice, the app may use an internet connection to send anonymous product analytics (app opens, setup steps, permission health) so we can see whether the app is working. Those events use a random install ID — not your name, email, or device advertising ID. If you use Help → Send logs, the report you choose to share can include today’s reel count and selected-app names.
Data we process on-device
- Reel counts — swipe / transition counts for curated short-form apps, stored locally and reset at local midnight.
- Usage time — time spent only for apps you enable in the Apps tab.
- App selections — which apps you chose for counting or usage tracking.
- Settings — preferences such as session timer.
- Diagnostic logs — after you accept the in-app notice, the app may write a local troubleshooting log (permission and count health). Help → Send Logs can attach that report through the system share sheet. You choose whether to send it.
- Accessibility signals — used only to detect curated reel surfaces and count swipes. On-device screen text may be read briefly to tell reels apart; it is not stored as captions and is not uploaded.
Anonymous product analytics (after accept)
If you accept the in-app privacy notice, Dry Scroll starts PostHog and may send:
- App opened / returned to foreground / backgrounded
- First launch (once per install)
- Onboarding step shown or tapped; onboarding completed
- Main tab switched; session-timer toggled; Battle invite shared
- Permission lost or restored; monitoring service started or stopped
Each install gets a random UUID stored only on the device. Events go to PostHog (us.i.posthog.com). IP addresses are anonymised at the PostHog project. Reel counts, captions, videos, and usage-time totals are not included.
If you do not accept the notice, analytics does not start.
Permissions
- Internet / network state — send the anonymous events above after you accept. Counting itself does not need the network.
- Accessibility — detect short-form video screens in curated apps and count swipes; drive the Reels Count overlay. Dry Scroll does not block other apps, perform gestures for you, or send accessibility tree contents off your device.
- Display over other apps — show today’s reel count (and optional session timer) while you watch.
- Usage access — measure time only for apps you select.
- Notifications — keep background monitoring reliable.
- Ignore battery optimizations — reduce the chance the system stops monitoring quietly.
- Foreground service — maintain the monitoring HUD while enabled.
What we do not do
- No account or login
- No ads SDK
- No sale of personal data
- No cloud sync of counts or selections
- No automatic upload of videos, captions, or reel totals (Send logs is a manual share you start)
Storage & security
Counts and selections stay in encrypted local storage on your phone. Android backup for this app is disabled. Analytics events that leave the device use HTTPS.
Your controls
You can revoke Accessibility, display-over-apps, usage access, notifications, or battery exemptions anytime in Android system settings. Uninstalling the app removes the app, its local data, and the random analytics ID from the device (subject to Android behavior).
Children
Dry Scroll is not directed at children under 13. Do not use the app if you are under the age required by your local law for this type of product.
Changes
We may update this policy. The effective date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
